Opening a free SVG file in Silhouette Studio
Unzip the download first. On Designer Edition, choose File then Open, set the file type to SVG and select the file — the design lands on the mat with its layers intact. On the free Basic Edition, do the same but pick the DXF instead; the cut lines are identical, they simply arrive without fill colours.
Once the design is on the mat, size it to the blank, then open Send. Pick the material, run a test cut on an offcut, and adjust blade depth, force and speed before committing a full sheet.

Silhouette blade and force settings that avoid wasted vinyl
Most cutting problems come down to force, not the file. Standard adhesive vinyl usually cuts at a blade setting of 2 with force in the mid-teens; heat transfer vinyl needs a touch more depth; cardstock wants a deeper blade and a second pass. The AutoBlade adjusts itself, but the force value is still yours to set.
Always test-cut a small square from the corner of your material. It costs a few seconds and saves whole sheets.
